Challenge
The tree ability. Rungs are cumulative: a Tier 3 character has the Tier 1, 2, and 3 lines.
- T1
Challenge (Reaction, plus a passive)
When an enemy within 30 feet starts its turn, you may challenge it: it makes a Heart save or can target only you until the end of its next turn. You also gain +1 to hit while exactly one enemy is within 5 feet of you (single combat).
- T2
On a failed Challenge save you also have advantage on attacks against it.
- T3
Your single-combat bonus rises to +2 to hit. A challenged enemy cannot willingly move away from you.
- T4
Mark Maneuver Pick one enemy within 30 feet that you can see. It makes a Heart save. On a failure it is marked until the combat ends or you mark another: it cannot willingly leave your reach, it has disadvantage on attacks against anyone but you, and you have advantage on attacks against it. You have one mark at a time. An enemy that saves cannot be marked by you again this combat.
- T5
Ultimate: Irresistible Challenge Passive Your Challenge and your Mark need no save against enemies of your level or lower. When your mark is killed, every wound it dealt you is healed (each wound notes what dealt it: Part 6, Lasting Injuries).
Deeds
Every martial tree grants two Deeds: its initial deed at Tier 1 and its ultimate deed at Tier 5.
Marked Prey
This one is yours. Everyone knows it. Lock eyes with a single enemy. They cannot ignore you. They cannot flee you. Between you and your mark, nothing else exists.
The Only Enemy
Between you, nothing else exists. The world fades. Only you and your opponent remain. The duel transcends the battle.
